Position Purpose:
Transport Drivers have a significant impact on the efficiency of the food supply chain. Not only do they ensure that goods reach their destination on schedule and in perfect condition, but they also serve as the face of our organization, actively engaging with customers to foster strong relationships
The driver is accountable for the transportation of food and food-related merchandise, utilizing different types of trucks for delivery purposes. They are responsible for delivering goods safely and promptly to customers, following DOT regulations and ensuring compliance with transportation laws. The driver's primary duty is to transport food items securely and promptly, adhering to all guidelines set forth by the Department of Transportation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interacts professionally with customers, suppliers, and coworkers, ensuring that all questions are answered promptly and accurately.
- Engages as a team player within the department and the organization, executing all assigned duties effectively to support the overall goals of the company.
- Undertakes obligatory safety assessments, like pre and post-trip inspections, which entail scrutinizing the tractor, truck, and trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) stipulations. Moreover, reviews the tractor, truck, and trailer to validate adherence to company safety standards and implements suitable measures if necessary.
- Timely reporting of safety problems and required maintenance is crucial.
- Ensures strict adherence to both DOT regulations and company policies for safe driving.
- Vigilantly notifies about safety hazards and checks the trailer to confirm the proper loading and securement of the freight.
- Verifies the quantity of items and reviews customer invoices for products that have been loaded.
- Confirms and finishes all obligatory forms linked with freight accurately and in a legible format.
- Relocates the tractor to the loading area and links up the preloaded trailer as required.
- Conveys customer orders by driving along a scheduled delivery route.
- Offloading items from the trailer and transporting them to assigned customer storage spaces.
- Carries out inspections on merchandise to identify damages, analyzes scanning results, and contacts a superior to initiate the cancellation of orders following company protocols.
- Validates the delivery of products with customers and acquires the correct signatures.
- Responsible for retrieving payments in cash or check format as needed. Loads returned items onto a trailer and ensures the trailer doors are securely fastened.
- Ensures that the tractor, trailer, and merchandise are always appropriately locked and secured.
- Responsibilities include unloading damaged merchandise and customer returns, then transporting them to the driver check-in station for necessary paperwork processing. Additionally, remove any trash from trailers and unload essential equipment and materials as needed.
- Ensures the completion of daily service hour records and inputs them into the log in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and organizational mandates.
- Executes typical housekeeping duties within the tractor, loading dock vicinity, and ensures trailers are kept clean and free from clutter as specified.
- Finish your shift by securing all tools and completing any essential paperwork.
- Completes any other assigned duties as required.
Qualification:
- Twelve months of experience as a commercial driver
- A high school diploma/GED or a comparable qualification approved by the state is mandatory
- Valid CDL A
- Meet the necessary state licensing and certification standards where required
- Individuals need to have attained the age of 21 to qualify for this provision
- Secure a pristine Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that encompasses the preceding 36 months
- Fulfill the conditions of a clean drug test and spotless criminal record post job offer
- Pass road test
- Have an up-to-date DOT Health Card or be prepared to acquire a new DOT Health Card
- Skilled in hand-lifting and operating two-wheelers, lift gates, and other tools to move and stack product cases or freight of different sizes and weights during the work shift. The products generally weigh between 10 and 35 pounds and occasionally range from approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the specific location
